Alternating blade cutter
Made tool
These cutters are one of the more interesting realisations in our company. They are used to produce special serrated knives for the pulveriser, a device for shredding plastics.
The tool has alternating blades – as the tool rotates, one blade makes a different cut from the next (each blade makes every other cut in the knife). To increase their durability, they have been additionally PVD-coated with M-Lox.
🔸Machined material: NC11
🔸Working parameters of the tool: S1900 F350, cutter engagement (Ae) for roughing 1mm, for finishing 0.5mm.
🔸The tool performed stably at the above parameters, but the workpiece in the shank outside the vise was getting a little vibration, which will affect the life of the tool.
During the tests, the tool machined 116 workpieces (in a series of 2). We reduced the machining time for two pieces in a series by 39 minutes, which translated into nearly 38h of time savings on the machine! 🔥
Previous tools took 45 minutes to machine two pieces of knives Whereas ours only took 6 minutes for roughing and finishing. 😎
With slight signs of wear, the cutter was removed, making it suitable for reconditioning and working again. ♻️
